Balsam obtained from the trunk of trees. Contains cinnamates, styrene, etc. It is a product which may contain resin acids and their esters, terpenes, and oxidation or polymerization products of these terpenes.

Uses

This compound is used as an ointment in the treatment of scabies and other parasitic skin diseases. It is also used in inhalations for catarrh of the upper respiratory tract. It is used in fumigating pastilles and powders, in perfumes, as an imbedding material in microscopy, as a topical protectant and as an expectorant. Some Perfumery Uses: Aerosol Fragrances; Appleblossom; Fixer The Best For Soap; Stock. In veterinary medicine, it is used as a parasiticide. Cross: Peru balsam, tincture of benzoin, dieythylstilbestrol.
