Uses

This compound is an anthelmintic used in the treatment of infection by tapeworms (dwarf tapeworm, pork tapeworm). It is also used as a fungicide, germicide in soap and shampoo, dentifrices, toothpaste, mouthwashes, deodorants, foot powders, papers, adhesives and bandages, and cooling fluids and as herbicide, bactericide, antimicrobial (anti- protozoan) and algicide. It is used to control moss in turf and is the basis of a preparation against athlete’s foot. In veterinary medicine it is used to remove ascarids and hookworms and to treat ringworm. It also has some dermatological and cosmetic applications. Cross: hexachlorophene.
